How to remove proxy elements from a drawing in AutoCAD

How to remove proxy elements and data structures from a drawing in AutoCAD?

Causes:

If a LiveEnabler is not available for an object, the object may be replaced with a proxy graphic. A proxy graphic is a placeholder that represents the object. This placeholder does not have the full display or attributes of the object. This is mostly caused because the object was created by a different application. For example a pipe-component was created in AutoCAD Plant 3D but the drawing will be opened by plain AutoCAD. Plain AutoCAD doesn't understand the object type "Pipe" and replaces this component by a proxy element. In the properties only plain AutoCAD properties will be shown. It is possible to install Object Enabler of the source product, in this exampled the object enabler for AutoCAD Plant 3D, to see the pipe-component as a pipe with all properties in plain AutoCAD.

Solution:

For AEC proxy elements:

Install the Object Enabler of the specific AutoCAD-based product
- Download the Object Enabler for the specific product.
- EXPORTTOAUTOCAD (or AECTOACAD) - Ideally, use the version of AutoCAD that correlates to the AEC objects in the drawing. Otherwise. have its object enabler installed. It may help to designate an older drawing format within the parameters of this command. Enter the command and type F for Format.
WBLOCK - Select the "Entire drawing" option at the top.

For AutoCAD Mechanical proxy elements:

Save the drawing in as an AutoCAD drawing instead of a Mechanical Drawing:

For proxy objects coming from a 3rd party application

Download and install the corresponding Object Enabler, if the 3rd party application has one available on their homepage (sometimes they need to be requested).
Use EXPLODE or BURST on the proxy objects within the drawing file.
